Three children of Ukraine’s Minister of Defense Rustem Umerov became citizens of the USA

Three children of Ukraine’s Defense Minister, Rustem Umerov, have become citizens of the United States. However, as of 2019, his wife and two children were listed as citizens of Ukraine.

This information is based on declarations for the years 2021-22, which were submitted to the National Agency on Corruption Prevention in December.

The declarations from the Ukrainian Defense Minister indicate that all of his children are citizens of the United States. The individuals in question are Seide Ahmed Umerov, Merieme Umerova, and Ave Umerova.

Based on documents from 2020, the acting minister’s wife and two of his children were listed as citizens of Ukraine. Therefore, they acquired U.S. citizenship within a two-year period.

The youngest daughter received an American passport immediately after birth. According to Ukrainian media reports, the Umerov family owns a large apartment measuring 137 square meters in the state of Ohio.

The press service of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense claimed that allegedly, the minister’s children obtained Ukrainian passports in America. However, Umerov himself has not officially commented on this matter. Hence, the situation remains quite unclear.

Nevertheless, even if they are not citizens of the United States and acquired a Ukrainian passport in the U.S., it demonstrates that the Defense Minister’s children, who he aims to mobilize for the army of Ukrainians living abroad, reside in the United States.
