05.07.2025 - 14:05Working Ukrainian refugees in the Netherlands will be required to pay more for living in government shelters starting in October.
Currently, Ukrainians under temporary protection status in the Netherlands who are employed (about 59%) or have another source of income pay €105 per month for shelter accommodations.
However, starting in October, this amount will increase to €244.22, as the government aims to eliminate differences between Ukrainian refugees and asylum seekers from other countries.
“The increase in personal contributions will be used to cover the cost of gas, water, and electricity in the shelters,” Keijzer explained.
In addition, adult Ukrainians living in temporary housing that provides meals will also be required to pay an additional €252.18 per month. This means a maximum charge of €992.80 per month for a family of two adults.
This move comes amid tightening migration policies across Europe, with political leaders from across the spectrum — from right to left — calling for tougher measures.
