‘Go back’: Indian students encounter hostility in Ukraine amid prolonged war
August 21, 2023Republicans in the US Congress want to appoint an inspector to oversee the funding of Ukraine in order to “prevent corruption”.

Such an appointment could become a condition for allocating President Joe Biden new funds to support Ukraine (over $20 billion), the publication states. Additionally, Republicans might attempt to reduce the size of this assistance.
At the moment, even “pro-Ukraine Republicans in Congress are refraining from supporting a new agreement on Ukraine.”
For example, Congressman Andy Harris stated this week that “Ukraine cannot win the war,” and therefore the US should reconsider further strengthening its defense.
“Mainstream Republicans sympathize with the cause, but we are pouring money into a conflict that could last for years,” conveyed one of the congressmen’s aides, reflecting their sentiments.
However, Democrats are hopeful that ultimately Republicans will vote “in favor.” In the package requested by Biden, there are deliberately included expenses for things not related to Ukraine but popular within the US, such as enhancing disaster relief efforts.
The package of aid to Ukraine might also be pushed forward against the backdrop of President Zelensky’s upcoming visit to the US for the United Nations General Assembly, the publication notes.
