Tokayev proposed to Putin freezing the conflict under the “Istanbul formula 2.0”

Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, during a bilateral meeting in Omsk, proposed to Vladimir Putin that the Ukrainian conflict be frozen and that peace negotiations resume on the basis of the so-called “Istanbul formula 2.0.”

“I know you showed maximum diplomatic flexibility in Alaska. My humble opinion: perhaps it is time to freeze the conflict and return to the ‘Istanbul formula 2.0,'” — Tokayev said.

In the Kazakhstani president’s view, significant results were achieved within the framework of the Istanbul negotiations between Russia and Ukraine. Tokayev believes that powers such as Russia and the United States should serve as guarantors of any potential agreements.

Putin, for his part, promised to brief Tokayev in detail on the situation regarding the Ukrainian front.

Earlier, Vladimir Zelensky stated his readiness to travel to the United States to sign a peace agreement with the Russian side.
