09.07.2026 07:28U.S. President Donald Trump concluded his participation in the NATO summit in Ankara in a good mood, dispelling the main concerns of European leaders. This was reported by CNN, citing sources familiar with the closed-door talks.
According to the outlet, this outcome was the best that NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte could have hoped for — despite the fact that the event did not get off to a particularly good start. CNN notes that this was precisely the result Rutte had been working toward throughout the past year — ever since Trump left the NATO summit in the Netherlands amid a wave of criticism.
The network’s sources say that Trump was satisfied with the atmosphere of the talks: according to him, the meeting room was filled with “love,” and summit participants showered him with compliments. Commenting on the behavior of the European leaders, the U.S. president acknowledged that if his colleagues had a plan to “get close to him” through flattery, that plan had worked perfectly.
Earlier, media outlets also reported that Trump refrained from criticizing NATO leaders during the closed session.
