Zelensky asks Latin America for transformers and generators for Ukraine’s power grid
06.11.2026 17:03US President Donald Trump said he met at the White House with Vladimir Putin’s special envoy Kirill Dmitriev. Trump declined to say what they discussed.
This is reported by Reuters.
According to Reuters, Trump predicted an agreement that would go “beyond Ukraine” and possibly involve “all of Europe.” As reported by the Associated Press, he also said he had not met with Ukrainian officials who were at the White House the same day.
“I can’t tell you exactly what we discussed. But I’ll tell you one thing: there will be a deal, and it will be big,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office, AFP reports.
“It will concern not only Ukraine… I can even say that it may concern all of Europe. It will be a big, beautiful deal, and everyone will be thrilled,” he continued.
Trump also said that a settlement of the war is already very close. According to AFP, this meeting was not on the schedule. The agency notes that his words will likely reinforce Europeans’ fears: they believe Trump is leaning toward the Kremlin and could push Kyiv toward an unfavorable deal. In addition, AFP recalls that Trump had previously announced peace agreements that never materialized.
Dmitriev was in Washington for an event hosted by First Lady Melania Trump. It was dedicated to a six-day truce in Oleshky — a city in Kherson Oblast occupied by Russian troops — which she helped organize. According to AP, the truce was in effect from October 27 to November 1. The president was not present at the event.
Dmitriev thanked the first lady for her “outstanding humanitarian role” and said that Putin had personally given instructions for the operation. Also present were Ukrainian MP Davyd Arakhamia and Human Rights Commissioner Dmytro Lubinets, along with Russia’s Human Rights Commissioner Yana Lantratova.
“Together we can create something more durable than a temporary truce,” the first lady said.
She added that she had written personal letters to Putin and Volodymyr Zelensky. Arakhamia called the truce “the most significant de-escalation since 2022.”
Thanks to the truce, aid was delivered to Oleshky and nearly 800 people were evacuated. It was not extended. The next day, a Russian strike on a humanitarian aid distribution point in Zaporizhzhia Oblast, according to Zelensky, claimed the lives of at least 40 people.
Representatives of the US, Ukraine, and Russia plan to hold trilateral talks in Abu Dhabi on November 10 and 11. Trump said the truce in Oleshky could become a step toward a broader deal.
