22.10.2026 16:01Zelensky: Ukraine supports trilateral talks with the US and Russia
22.10.2026 18:04US President Donald Trump said he does not intend to impose new sanctions against Russia, as Moscow and Washington are, in his words, possibly close to a deal on Ukraine.
He made the statement on October 21, responding to journalists’ questions on the South Lawn of the White House.
“We are currently negotiating with Russia on Ukraine. We are possibly close to a deal for the first time in a long time. It’s possible that we are close to a deal. When you are close to a deal and are conducting very delicate negotiations, you don’t impose sanctions,” Trump said.
The American president also emphasized that he retains the right to impose restrictive measures at any moment.
“I have the authority to impose them at any moment,” he added, speaking about restrictions against Russia.
