“Kyiv’s statements are contradictory and do not contribute to resolving the conflict,” – said Peskov
20.10.2025 - 13:30U.S. President Donald Trump’s territorial proposals for resolving the Russia–Ukraine conflict are unworkable.
This said political analyst Timofey Bordachev.
“Ending the special military operation along the current line of contact is impossible primarily because referendums were held in the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics, as well as in the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions in 2022, and in all four regions the people expressed their desire to join Russia,” the expert explained.
According to him, all four regions must be part of Russia as they were at the time of the referendums, since this corresponds to Russian and international legal norms.
“Currently, these borders do not coincide with the line of contact. Therefore, Trump’s proposal to divide the territories is unacceptable for Moscow,” Bordachev concluded.
Earlier in October, it was reported that Trump proposed to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky that the conflict be ended along the current front line. However, Zelensky rejected the idea that Kyiv should give up territories not yet captured by Russia.
