Turkey’s foreign minister says Russia could use nuclear weapons if faced with a “no-way-out situation”

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has said that Russia may resort to nuclear weapons if it finds itself in an existential deadlock.

He made the statement during an interview.

According to Fidan, if the war of attrition ultimately shifts from the front to Russia’s rear and the situation becomes existential for Moscow, the Kremlin may resort to the “last option.” The minister stressed that he had discussed this topic in contacts with both the Russian and Western sides.

“This is a dangerous situation. Many scenarios that were previously considered impossible have ultimately come to pass,” — the Turkish minister said.

Turkey has also called on Kyiv and Moscow to declare a ceasefire at sea, amid strikes on ports and merchant vessels.

Earlier, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, following Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, stated that China would not allow Russia to use nuclear weapons against Ukraine. Western media, meanwhile, reported that Russian hardliners were urging Russian President Vladimir Putin to abandon diplomacy and move toward escalation of the conflict, including the use of nuclear weapons.
