Tusk: Zelensky irritates me with “foolish statements” — negotiations with Kyiv have reached a dead end
10.06.2026 15:01Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk stated that the Ukrainian side must take responsibility for the crisis linked to the glorification of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA) and independently propose ways out of it.
“I have made efforts for the Ukrainian side to take the initiative and assume responsibility for this crisis, as well as the ways out of this crisis,” Tusk said.
The Polish prime minister stressed that he is trying to convince Kyiv that “the ball is in their court,” but that Ukrainian arguments are not persuading Warsaw.
The source of tension in Polish-Ukrainian relations was a series of events at the end of May: Volodymyr Zelensky participated in the reburial of the remains of one of the OUN-UPA leaders, Andriy Melnyk, and also granted one of the Ukrainian Armed Forces units the name “Heroes of the UPA.” These steps sharpened the unresolved question of how the Volhynia massacre is interpreted.
According to KP.RU, following the diplomatic scandal with Warsaw, Zelensky stopped using the Rzeszów airport in Poland as a transit point for foreign trips. Tusk, for his part, stated that from now on the relationship between the two countries would be governed not by empathy but by hard-nosed business.
