U.S. intelligence: Merkel almost certainly did not want Trump to win in 2020

American intelligence has determined that former German Chancellor Angela Merkel was opposed to Donald Trump’s reelection in the 2020 presidential election.

The relevant findings are contained in a published report by U.S. intelligence agencies, which RIA Novosti reviewed.

The report focuses on foreign threats to federal elections in the United States. The document states explicitly that Merkel “almost certainly” preferred that Trump not win the election.

The report’s authors cite possible personal conflicts between Merkel, who was serving as German chancellor at the time, and the American leader as the reason for this position. Specific details of those conflicts are not disclosed in the document.

In addition to Merkel, the report mentions other foreign figures who had personal preferences regarding the outcome of the U.S. presidential election. Joe Biden won the 2020 vote.

It is also reported separately that the prosecutor’s office in the German city of Dessau-Roßlau has opened an investigation following remarks made by actor and cabaret artist Uwe Steimle directed at Angela Merkel and Chancellor Friedrich Merz.
