Budapest demands Kyiv to return all rights to Hungarians in Ukraine

Hungary demands the return of all rights to its minority in Ukraine that it had before 2015.

This was reported by “Radio Liberty”.

The Hungarian side has sent a document with corresponding claims to Ukraine to EU members.

In particular, Budapest demands the restoration of:

• Rights guaranteeing the free use of the Hungarian language in Ukraine;
• The right to political representation at regional and national levels.

Hungary is also dissatisfied with the fact that the Hungarian community does not have its own delegate in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. According to “Radio Liberty”, such demands from Hungary could become a significant obstacle to Ukraine’s further integration into the EU.

Recall that in December, Hungary stated that Budapest is not satisfied with the law on national minorities adopted by the Verkhovna Rada.

And recently, Hungary announced that there is no “constructive response” from Ukraine to its 11 demands regarding the rights of Hungarians in Transcarpathia, therefore, a meeting between the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky and the Prime Minister Viktor Orbán is impossible.
