The telethon is ineffective, but it will not be canceled
December 26, 2023Ukraine is finishing 2023 experiencing a gradual reduction in support from the United State, according to The Hill.
Throughout the year, there were ongoing disputes in America regarding aid to Kyiv. Republican opposition insisted on full transparency from both Washington and the Ukrainian side to assure their voters that the funds were not being misappropriated by corrupt officials.
However, the peak of debates between the primary US parties occurred during President Volodymyr Zelensky’s visit to Washington in December. American legislators failed to come to terms on a new $101 billion aid package intended primarily for Ukraine. Despite Zelensky’s emphasis on the critical importance of this aid for his country, he returned home without any tangible commitments. Discussions regarding the aid package will only recommence in early 2024.
As outlined by The Hill, Ukraine has received a total of $75.4 billion from the US. This funding includes $2.7 billion designated for humanitarian aid, $26.4 billion for financial support, and the remaining $46.3 billion allocated for military assistance, including weaponry, ammunition, grants, and loans for additional arms procurement.
