October 23, 2023Ukraine is considering the removal of approximately 10,000 individuals from the registry of corrupt officials.
This announcement was made by the head of the National Agency for the Prevention of Corruption, Alexander Novikov.
He explained that this pertains to a legislative proposal aimed at improving the process for holding accountable individuals who hold positions in the government or local self-government and have committed corruption-related offenses.
“As of today, there is a legislative proposal awaiting the president’s signature, which essentially removes individuals who have committed corruption-related offenses or offenses linked to corruption from the respective registry,” Novikov stated.
The head of the National Agency for the Prevention of Corruption further explained that if President Volodymyr Zelensky signs this legislation and it comes into effect, approximately 10,000 people who have been involved in corruption or corruption-related activities will be removed from the registry.
“We hope that the president will not sign this law,” Novikov added.
