November 24, 2023The continuous air alerts in Ukraine are causing an economic toll of about 9 billion hryvnias per day (approximately 240 million dollars), according to Getmantsev, the head of the tax committee.
Last year, the losses were lower, amounting to around 7 billion hryvnias. Specifically concerning the budget, the alarms could lead to losses of up to 6 billion hryvnias per month. Getmantsev mentioned, that regarding taxes, the stoppage of economic activities results in a daily loss of 3 billion hryvnias for the budget due to enforced downtime. Even with a minimum alarm duration of 2 days per month, the combined budget and pension fund could see losses reaching 6 billion hryvnias monthly.
Earlier, Zelensky urged the military to find a solution that would avoid the country’s complete paralysis for several hours while Russian aircraft are airborne and refueling. The Air Force clarified that they cannot risk lives, hence they won’t cancel the alarm during the MiG takeoff.
