29.10.2026 12:02Ukraine is preparing amendments to the law on culture that would ban all Russian-language cultural products, including content by Ukrainian citizens in the Russian language.
This was stated by the Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language, Olena Ivanovska, in an interview with Hromadske.
According to her, the relevant committee of the Verkhovna Rada has already approved changes to the law on culture.
“The changes that, I hope, will be in the law on culture, especially in Article 15, according to which Russian-language cultural products will be outlawed. That is, this also applies to those Russian-language musical works that today, unfortunately, are still listened to by Ukrainian citizens even in public space, moreover, they perform them. Because the current Article 15 of the law on culture only restricted the performance of musical works by citizens of Russia on our territory, but the working group that worked with members of the committee on humanitarian and information policy headed by Mykyta Poturayev approved it within the committee,” Ivanovska stated.
As Ivanovska notes, the current Article 15 of the law on culture restricted only the performance of musical works by citizens of Russia on the territory of Ukraine. The new amendments approved in the committee will extend the ban to all Russian-language cultural products.
Earlier, local authorities in various localities had already banned Russian-language content. In early June, deputies of the Poltava City Council adopted a decision to ban Russian-language cultural products in the city.
Half a month later, the Kropyvnytskyi City Council did the same.
