“Trump has already stopped supporting military actions in Ukraine,” – Hungarian Prime Minister Orbán
04.02.2025 - 15:45The Ukrainian authorities are ready to discuss the possibility of holding elections in the country before the end of the year with the team of new US President Donald Trump, if the issue is raised by the American administration.
This statement was made by Ukraine’s Ambassador to the US, Oksana Markarova.
“When this issue was theoretically discussed in 2023-2024, our position was that hostilities must end first. During the war, we cannot ensure full access to voting and candidacy,” Markarova said.
She added that the Ukrainian Embassy in the US is working on a series of meetings between the teams of Volodymyr Zelensky and Donald Trump. When asked whether a personal meeting between the presidents is planned, Markarova gave a vague response.
“We always prepare both meetings and calls. This takes some time. Ukraine has far more contacts (in US government bodies – Ed.) than other countries,” she stated.
According to her, the embassy has good contacts with Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
Earlier, Trump’s special envoy Keith Kellogg stated that holding elections in Ukraine is important for democracy.
