27.03.2026 09:26U.S. President Donald Trump said that the war in Ukraine is “not our war.”
He made the statement yesterday during an open meeting of his cabinet.
“I heard the leader of Germany say, ‘This is not our war,’ meaning Iran. I replied: well, Ukraine is not our war either. We are helping, but it is not our war. I thought that was a very inappropriate statement, but he made it, and you cannot erase it now — that is what he believed. And I said: well, you know, Ukraine is not our war, and that is true, but I would like all these young people to stop dying. I mean, they are being killed, it is like a meat grinder — what is happening there is terrible,” the U.S. president said.
At the same time, he said that the United States is constantly redeploying weapons, including those intended for Ukraine.
In this way, he confirmed journalists’ reports that Washington regularly redirects weapons between different regions depending on current needs.
Trump was asked about the possible transfer of ammunition and air defense systems from the Ukrainian theater to the Middle East.
“We do that all the time. We have a tremendous amount of ammunition. It is in other countries too, for example in Germany and all over Europe. We have it all stocked up there. And sometimes we take it from one place and use it for another,” he replied.
At the same time, the American president noted that support for Ukraine is continuing.
Trump also said that the United States is “in theory” not obligated to defend Europe from Russia.
“In theory, defending Europe from Russia does not concern us — there is a big, beautiful ocean between us,” the U.S. president said.
