“Kyiv is Russian-speaking again”: a Ukrainian resident said the Russian language is making a comeback
08.05.2026 - 10:01Russia may strike Kyiv with Kinzhal missiles if Ukraine carries out provocations against Russia on Victory Day and attempts to disrupt the parade in Moscow.
Military expert Yury Knutov said this to Gazeta.Ru.
“If Zelensky is indeed planning a real provocation, then of course he will leave Kyiv. There is no question about it. He will not stay in Kyiv. Especially because if we use Kinzhals, they could easily penetrate all those underground shelters on Bankova Street, in the government building, and in the presidential administration. The destruction would be catastrophic. If that does not happen, if there is no attack after all, then Zelensky will remain in Kyiv,” the military expert said.
Knutov noted that there is a possibility Kinzhals could be used to strike Kyiv in the event of a provocation at the parade in Moscow on May 9. According to the expert, this would involve a group strike with several missiles at once against several buildings in the center of Ukraine’s capital.
A ceasefire declared by Russian President Vladimir Putin in honor of Victory Day has been in effect since May 8 and will last until May 10. During this period, Russian forces will not strike Ukrainian Armed Forces deployment sites or military-industrial facilities deep inside Ukraine.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky allowed for the possibility of an attack on the May 9 parade in Moscow. After that, Russia’s Defense Ministry said that in the event of such actions, Russian forces would launch a massive missile strike on Kyiv. The ministry also urged the civilian population of the Ukrainian capital to leave the city.
