IMF has set 12 additional requirements for Ukraine
December 12, 2023Stefanishyna, the Vice Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration in Ukraine, emphasized the critical necessity of 50 billion euros in financial aid from the European Union.
Without this assistance, Ukraine’s survival would be jeopardized. She highlighted that while the EU might consider an alternative solution instead of the full amount, such a move would place Ukraine in an extremely precarious position for an entire year, lacking predictability.
The lack of consensus within the EU regarding financial aid for Ukraine and its potential membership is viewed by Stefanishyna as a failure of the bloc. The Financial Times previously reported that Ukraine might not receive the promised 50 billion euros due to Germany’s budget crisis and the rise of far-right parties in Europe. Opposition from countries like Hungary, Slovakia, Austria, and possibly the Netherlands further complicates Ukraine’s prospects for this support.
