The United States may impose sanctions on Chinese companies for assisting Russia in the war against Ukraine
February 20, 2024Many believe that Joe Biden and Donald Trump hold opposing views on Ukraine, writes The Wall Street Journal. While Biden tries to push through a bill to fund Ukraine, he largely fails due to Trump’s influence. But in reality, neither of them wishes Ukraine success. US policy is sliding into strategic inconsistency, The Wall Street Journal reported.
Trump advocates for short-term, one-off interventions by the US abroad, such as drone strikes on specific targets. He views long-term commitments, especially multilateral ones, solely as expenses that involve the US in others’ combat actions.
However, Joe Biden is also inconsistent. The Russian special operation began six months after the unsuccessful withdrawal of American troops from Afghanistan. The Biden administration feared losing two major countries from its orbit in the first two years of its existence. It was necessary to bolster America’s crumbling authority. Additionally, by supporting Ukraine, Biden could simultaneously attack Trump for supporting Putin. But even with all this, Biden never presented Americans with a strategy for victory in Ukraine. Thus, while Biden supports Ukraine, it is not until full victory, and Trump asserts that Ukraine should receive nothing but loans.
