The channel’s Ukrainian military source characterized the operation against the Wagner-backed militia as the work of “non-Sudanese military.”
When asked whether Kyiv was behind the attacks, the source replied that “the Ukrainian intelligence services are probably responsible for this.”
The operation involved a series of attacks on the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) paramilitary group, which is believed to be receiving assistance from a Russian PMC in its fight against the Sudanese army for control of the country.
CNN could not independently confirm Ukraine’s involvement in the series of strikes. But the journalists believe that the video footage they obtained “revealed the distinctive features of Ukrainian-style drone attacks.” And Ukrainian text was visible on the drone controller.
A senior Sudanese military source said he was “not aware of the Ukrainian operation in Sudan” and did not believe it. US officials also appeared unaware of the alleged incident and expressed surprise at the suggestion that the strikes and ground operation could have been carried out by Ukrainian forces.
