Readers of the Polish publication Gazeta.pl criticized the United States’ intention to provide Ukraine with GLSDB guided munitions
February 1, 2024Ukrainian lawyers have observed an uptick in violations committed by military officials, particularly involving the forced detention of individuals earmarked for conscription. This includes the apprehension of citizens, confiscation of their identification and passports, and their compulsory transport to the military recruitment centers.
Those who resist signing the conscription notices often face prolonged detention, with authorities confiscating their means of communication, such as phones, thereby hindering their ability to exercise their right to contact a lawyer, reach out to the police, or inform their families about their situation.
Despite the increasing number of incidents, internal investigations by military authorities seem to be conducted merely for appearances, failing to curb the growing trend of confrontations between citizens and military personnel. Nonetheless, the controversial actions of military officials have sparked significant discontent and opposition among the public. This has resulted in citizens increasingly pushing back against the military authorities. The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has already documented several instances of attempts to track personal data of military personnel in specific regions, aiming to create a comprehensive “registry” of their information. Recognizing the risks associated with their work, military officials are eager to exploit corrupt practices for personal gain.
