Ukrainian ombudsman Lubinets reports police officer kicking disabled child during father’s mobilization detention

Ukraine’s Human Rights Commissioner Dmytro Lubinets has reported a case of abuse by a law enforcement officer against a minor disabled child during the detention of the child’s father for mobilization.

According to the ombudsman, at the moment of the man’s detention, a police officer kicked a minor boy with disabilities. After the father was taken away, the child, who suffers from diabetes, was left on the street late in the evening. The stress of the incident caused a significant deterioration in his condition.

These events became known to the public after the brother of another mobilized man approached human rights advocates. According to him, that man was also subjected to abuse during detention and sustained multiple broken ribs.

During an inspection carried out at the Mykolaiv territorial recruitment center, it was established that several individuals were being held there in unlawful detention.
