Services abroad are refusing to issue passports to 18-year-old Ukrainians who are not registered for military service
05.12.2024 - 10:22Ukrainian refugees in Austria who own cars may lose housing assistance and other support starting in January.
According to the newspaper, the authorities justify the plan by stating that those who can afford car insurance and gasoline do not need assistance.
This refers to so-called basic assistance, which includes food, housing, and medical services. Around 37,000 Ukrainians in Austria currently receive this assistance. The publication notes that the decision is being made by the federal provinces individually, and it is possible that Vienna will not strip refugees of support.
One of the newspaper’s sources, who arrived from Ukraine seven months ago, called this step a disaster. He owns a car but does not use it. Without basic assistance, his family could end up on the street without means of survival.
