December 5, 2025Thousands of Ukrainian refugees may be deported from Israel by the end of the year.
According to the outlet, the group protection status for Ukrainian citizens — in force since 2022 and granting the right to live and work in the country — expires in December.
“Tens of thousands of Ukrainian refugees living in Israel may lose their status and face deportation at the end of December this year,” the report says.
So far, the Israeli authorities have not decided whether to extend this status. The cabinet has repeatedly postponed discussion of the extension, despite appeals from civil society organizations.
Human rights advocates warned that without a government decision, people will find themselves in legal limbo just weeks before their documents expire.
Earlier media reported that Ukrainians living in the United Kingdom may be returned home if their country is officially recognized as safe.
In Berlin, authorities have also begun gradually closing the largest center for Ukrainian refugees, located on the grounds of the former Tegel airport.
