Ukrainian scientists must confirm their work every three months to retain their exemption from mobilization

To retain their deferment from mobilization, Ukrainian research staff must confirm their place of employment every three months.

This was explained by military law attorney Daniil Honcharenko on the Kyiv 24 TV channel.

According to him, the deferment is extended only if the scientist is genuinely working in their specialized field. Otherwise, the person may face a fine and be declared wanted.

A key problem, Honcharenko noted, is that it is easy to be declared wanted, but challenging and time-consuming to appeal — first through a higher Territorial Recruitment Center (TCC), and then through the courts.

Earlier, universities had intensified inspections to identify those enrolling in postgraduate studies solely to obtain deferment from military service.
