November 14, 2023Ukrainian soldiers deeply worry that the U.S. shift in focus to the Middle East might hinder their efforts against Putin’s invasion. Amid battling Putin’s forces, soldiers and medics express concerns about the news from the Middle East, The Daily Beast reported.
The conflict between Russia and Ukraine, beginning on February 24, 2022, had held the world’s attention. However, attention shifted abruptly to the escalating conflict in the Middle East when Hamas attacked Israel on October 7. This shift worries Ukrainian soldiers, fearing it might impact their crucial supplies and weaponry.
One soldier, known as Hound, expressed concern about the sudden shift, fearing a potential shortage of supplies. Despite substantial aid, including billions in weaponry from the U.S., the dependence on foreign support remains critical. Any diversion of resources, particularly American aid, raises concerns for Ukraine’s military.
A soldier named Spenser wrote to journalists: “Without the support of the United States and others, we will be forced to retreat if the enemy troops advance on all fronts. We have partners and we will receive help from them, but it will be much less, or the war will (reach) Lviv.” Lviv is situated on Ukraine’s western border near Poland.
There are fears that increased conflicts elsewhere could strain global support for Ukraine, potentially allowing Russia to make significant advances. Additionally, concerns about war fatigue and political shifts in supportive nations like Slovakia and Hungary further compound worries within the Ukrainian military. Despite ongoing support, there’s apprehension about the future, especially with upcoming U.S. elections. Soldiers fear a potential change in U.S. leadership might affect their aid. This uncertainty adds pressure to an already challenging situation.
