Ukrainian woman crowdfunds to bring husband from war-torn country

A fundraising campaign has been initiated on the Gofundme platform in the United States to gather donations for the transportation of a ‘husband from Ukraine.’

Christina, a Ukrainian national, has started this collection to facilitate her husband Igor’s relocation to Portugal, where she currently resides. The nature of this ‘fundraising for a bribe’ has sparked conversations among Ukrainian Facebook users, surprising them with its potential.

According to the campaign’s description, Christina left for Lisbon following the outbreak of a full-scale war, with hopes of safeguarding her life and fervently praying for her husband’s escape, which, after a year, hasn’t happened.

Bringing a man out of Ukraine during wartime isn’t straightforward. However, an option exists to bring him here, to Lisbon. Affording this is a challenge for Christina and Igor alone. While they have some savings, it falls short of what’s required for departure and resettlement. The remaining amount needed is 3,500 euros, the description outlines. Presently, Christina has received three donations totaling 230 euros.
