Taisia, the wife of a Ukrainian soldier participating in the Kiev protest, expressed concern about the absence of her husband and its impact on their three-year-old son’s life. Protesters are demanding a reduction in military service duration to 18 months, whereas the government is considering extending it to 36 continuous months for servicemen.
In an attempt to increase the pool of eligible conscripts, the government is also contemplating lowering the conscription age from 27 to 25 years. Nina, a participant in the protest, highlighted the irreplaceable role of soldiers and the toll the prolonged service takes on them. Antonina Danilevich, the wife of a Ukrainian soldier, shared with Euronews that her husband had only enjoyed a total of 30 days off during his two years of service.
