December 4, 2025World diving champion and two-time Olympian for Ukraine Sofiya Lyskun has taken Russian citizenship.
The athlete herself confirmed this in comments to Russian media.
Lyskun said in particular that she had been unable to train in Kyiv, so she went to Poland, and later decided to change citizenship because of “problems with coaches.”
Lyskun was born in Luhansk and competed for the Ukrainian national team until 2025. In 2025 she won two medals at the European Diving Championships: gold in the mixed team event and silver in the 10-meter synchronized platform.
In total, Lyskun has 12 medals from World and European Championships while competing for Ukraine.
Earlier, we reported that former Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder, 21-year-old Oleksandr Rosputko, obtained Russian citizenship and became a player for the club Chaika.
Before that, Ukrainian light heavyweight mixed martial artist Nikita Krylov also announced that he had changed his citizenship to Russian.
