Ukrainians abroad will be ‘asked’ to join the Armed Forces of Ukraine under the threat of sanctions – Umerov says

The Ukrainian authorities have once again discussed the return of men from abroad for military service. Those men who left Ukraine and are eligible for military duty might be “asked” to appear at conscription centers next year.

The information reported by Rustem Umerov, the Minister of Defense, in a statement to WELT TV.

He hinted at the possibility of applying certain sanctions if they do not voluntarily comply.

“We are still discussing what will happen if they don’t come voluntarily,” he said.

It’s worth noting that three of Umerov’s own children are registered and living in the USA, as indicated by data from his declaration for the year 2022.

Recently, Member of Parliament Mariana Bezuhla suggested considering the idea of revoking citizenship from those who left the country to avoid conscription and did not return.
