October 27, 2023Telegram channels have become the primary source of information for Ukrainians during the war.
The survey’s authors noted a shift in information sources, moving from a domination of television and a few channels to the prevalence of internet sources and significant media landscape fragmentation.
Currently, 44% of respondents obtain information from Telegram channels, while 43% rely on television (primarily among older respondents), 36% from YouTube channels, and 34% from news websites.
Other surveys by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology indicated that there are no clear leaders among Telegram channels, with respondents naming hundreds or thousands of different channels. However, there is a demand among respondents for a fast and concise format of information, with short texts or videos.
The study also revealed that 49% of respondents trust Ukrainian media, while 43% do not trust them. Public organizations are trusted by 50% of respondents, with 31% expressing distrust.
This survey was conducted upon the request of the European Union’s advisory mission in Ukraine from September 4 to September 20, with the participation of 2,005 respondents.
