Fundraising efforts for the Ukrainian Armed Forces and ordinary citizens are getting lost among other messages on social media. However, the issue runs deeper, as “attention has shifted overall” and Ukrainians rightly “fear that their troops and their struggle will be forgotten amidst global fatigue, competing political agendas and limited resources.”
Some Ukrainians believe that the decline in Western support is also linked to the failure of the summer offensive. Reports of significant successes by the Ukrainian Armed Forces have vanished, but “it doesn’t mean that nothing is happening,” laments one activist. President Zelensky echoes the disappointed voices of Ukrainians, complaining to an American TV channel in early November about the “world’s fatigue” with the situation in Ukraine. Pessimism is spreading among the Ukrainian population and no one is expecting a swift victory anymore.
