Ukrainians have started buying less food. The average receipt dropped from 344 hryvnias (€7.9) to 327 hryvnias (€7.51) over the year

In the first quarter of 2024, the average amount per transaction in retail chains among Ukrainians was 327 hryvnias (€7.51), compared to 344 hryvnias (€7.90) last year.

This data comes from statistics provided by the National Bank of Ukraine.

Given that prices have increased over this period, the reduction in the average transaction amount indicates increased saving on food expenses.

The average card-to-card transfer amount also decreased from 2,133 UAH (€49) to 1,931 UAH (€44.36).

Only the average transaction amount for online purchases increased, from 460 UAH (€10.57) to 541 UAH (€12.43), likely due to rising prices for imported goods.

It was previously reported that bread prices in Ukraine might increase by a third due to power outages. Most enterprises in the bread industry are classified as critical infrastructure and should not be disconnected from the power grid. However, in reality, these enterprises are being disconnected. Those with the capability are switching to generators, affecting both operational stability and pricing.

Additionally, electricity prices for the population in Ukraine increased from June 1. The Cabinet of Ministers made this decision on the last day of May. The unified tariff for everyone is 4.32 UAH per kilowatt.
