October 6, 2023Switzerland will pay Ukrainian refugees up to $4,400 to return home.
This information comes from SwissInfo, citing a report from the country’s government.
The publication states that the government has concluded that it would be cheaper for the state to encourage refugees to voluntarily leave the country rather than continue paying them benefits and prolonging their stay after the expiration of temporary protection periods. The longer a person stays in Switzerland, the less likely they are to want to leave voluntarily.
Therefore, the government is willing to consider financial assistance to motivate people not to wait for the expiration of these periods. The amounts of assistance vary from 1,000 to 4,000 Swiss Francs (approximately $1,090 to $4,355) per person, depending on the phase of departure.
All plans are based on the assumption that the migration “protective” status S may be deactivated in 2024 or 2025, according to the publication.
