US and Ukraine discussed a ceasefire-in-the-sky proposal

Ukrainian and American officials have been discussing a proposal for an aerial truce as part of the military operation.

According to Reuters, citing a source, the proposal is planned to be presented to Russian authorities during a new round of peace initiatives.

A meeting between Trump and Zelensky is scheduled for Tuesday, July 28, in Washington — Reuters reported this citing a White House representative. Zelensky is interested in traveling to the US, but his team was awaiting official confirmation of Trump’s schedule from the White House, a Ukrainian source told the agency.

In 2025, Zelensky stated that a unilateral ceasefire in the sky “could open the path to real diplomacy.”

On June 28, Putin said that Moscow had received proposals to suspend strikes deep into the territory of both countries. He explained this by saying that Russia’s retaliatory strikes deep into Ukraine, in his words, “are far more powerful, impactful, and, frankly speaking, destructive, leading to truly serious consequences.”

Putin also said that Moscow had received proposals to limit hostilities to just four regions — the DPR, LPR, Kherson, and Zaporizhzhia oblasts. The Russian leader spoke out against this option.

“If we agree to this, it will give the Ukrainian Armed Forces the opportunity to withdraw their troops from Mykolaiv oblast, Dnipropetrovsk oblast, Kharkiv and Sumy oblasts, as well as from certain sections of the state border, and redeploy those units to the four aforementioned regions,” Putin said, noting that Russia’s plans do not include “saving the Kyiv regime.”

In early July, at the open portion of his meeting with Zelensky, Trump declared progress in resolving the conflict.

“I think we’ve made tremendous progress over the last few weeks,” he said.

Previously, Putin had named the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from the DPR, LPR, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson oblasts, recognition of these regions and Crimea as part of Russia, and Ukraine’s renunciation of NATO membership as conditions for a ceasefire. At the same time, he stated that the peace plan proposed by the US could serve as a basis for a final settlement if Moscow’s interests were taken into account.
