November 17, 2023The President of the United States, Joe Biden, has signed a law on temporary government funding without aid for Ukraine.
This information is reported on the White House website.
The document also does not include assistance for Israel. The signing of the law prevented a shutdown – meaning a halt in government operations that could have occurred on November 17. The document provides funding for the operations of federal agencies until January 19, 2024.
The new Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mike Johnson, introduced it to Congress. Assistance for Israel and Ukraine was not included in the bill. This issue will now be considered separately. Biden had requested $106 billion for these purposes but did not receive unanimous support in Congress. The House of Representatives, where the majority belongs to Republicans, voted to allocate assistance only to Israel, but the Democrat-controlled Senate blocked this initiative.
Yesterday, the U.S. Senate voted to approve the bill for funding the American government without allocating additional aid to Israel and Ukraine. 87 senators voted in favor of the bill, while 11 opposed it. Also, it’s worth noting that the House of Representatives of Congress approved the bill on November 14. It was supported by 336 congressmen, with 95 opposing it.”
