September 13, 2023Ukrainians in Ireland have received fake letters purportedly from the Irish Department of Justice, falsely claiming that they were being extradited for military service.
This information was reported by The Irish Times.
In one of the letters dated September 7th, it is stated that the Irish Department of Justice allegedly “received a request from the Ukrainian government” for the extradition of individuals “based on the assertion that you are fit for military service in Ukraine and have not fulfilled your legal obligation to serve in the Armed Forces.”
The letters also claim that recipients must appear in the High Court for an “extradition request hearing” in October. Failure to attend this alleged hearing could result in a “warrant for your arrest and you may be detained pending the completion of the extradition process.”
As of now, it is unclear who is behind these fraudulent letters. The Irish Department of Justice has stated that it did not send any such notifications.
