‘Shock Therapy’: What is mentioned in the updated memorandum with the IMF and what it means for Ukrainians
03.07.2024 - 13:37Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that former US President Donald Trump should propose his plan for a swift end to Russia’s war against Ukraine.
He told this in an interview with Bloomberg Television in Kyiv.
“If Trump knows how to end this war, he should tell us about it today… If there are risks to Ukrainian independence, if we lose statehood—we want to be prepared for that, we want to know”, – Zelensky said.
Zelensky also mentioned that he is “potentially ready” to meet with Trump to hear proposals from his team.
“They cannot plan my life, the lives of our people, and our children. We want to understand whether we will have strong support from the US in November or be completely alone,” Zelensky emphasized.
At the same time, he rejected the notion that Ukrainian and Russian forces are at a stalemate on the battlefield, asserting that the military now has better human resources than a few months ago, and a new offensive is a matter of arming their brigades.
Zelensky expressed gratitude for the $61 billion military aid package approved by the US Congress in July but noted that the weapons are taking too long to reach the front.
“The greatest tragedy of this war is that between the decision and the actual fact, we have a very, very, very long wait,” Zelensky said.
Additionally, Zelensky stated that China could play a “huge role” in resolving the conflict, as Moscow depends on its export market. He suggested that if the US and China set aside their differences, they could work together to end the war.
Earlier reports mentioned that former US President Trump repeatedly promised to quickly stop the war in Ukraine if he won the presidential elections. He claimed to know both Russian President Vladimir Putin and Zelensky very well, which he said would enable him to “solve this problem very quickly.” Trump also stated that he could end the war “within 24 hours,” and mentioned that he “would allow” Russia to take part of Ukraine, criticizing the US for providing too much weaponry to Ukraine.
