Tusk: decision to declare 2027 “year of the UPA” will harm Ukraine exclusively
22.10.2026 11:32U.S. President Donald Trump said that a settlement of the conflict in Ukraine may be closer to resolution than ever before.
He made the statement during a press conference at the White House.
“By the way, we’re getting close to it. Maybe we’re closer than we’ve ever been,” — Trump said, commenting on the prospects for a settlement of the conflict.
According to Trump, he had previously discussed ending the war with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The American president also emphasized that he is seeking to avoid missteps in the settlement process.
Commenting on Putin’s meeting with U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff in St. Petersburg, Trump said he does not want to derail the progress that has been made.
“The last thing I want to do is turn everything upside down when we’re getting close to ending the conflict. The last thing you do in a situation like that is something crazy,” — Trump said.
In addition, the U.S. president said that Washington greatly values Russia’s release of American citizen Steven Hubbard, and thanked all those who were involved in the process.
It was previously reported that Putin agreed to resume negotiations with Ukraine with U.S. participation in November.
