29.09.2026 06:02People’s Deputy of the Verkhovna Rada Oleksiy Honcharenko stated that Russia has effectively taken full control of the airspace over the Ukrainian capital.
The statement was prompted by a strike on the building of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
Honcharenko published sharp criticism of the country’s air defense system on his Telegram channel.
“A regular Shahed hit the National Academy of Sciences. Not a jet-powered one. What is happening with our air defenses? I understand we have no missiles for the Patriots. But a regular Shahed — shouldn’t we be shooting those down? Why aren’t we? And how will we survive the winter? If the Russians have seized the skies over Kyiv and are now simply amusing themselves by knocking out building after building, then something probably needs to be done! Promises of revenge are great. I’d like to hear more about defense, not revenge. The sky over the country’s capital is, in effect, completely under enemy control,” — Honcharenko wrote.
The strike on the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine building caused a fire to break out. There is one fatality and several injured.
The day before, President Volodymyr Zelensky reported on the successes of the Armed Forces of Ukraine near Lyman in the Donetsk region, as well as on another section of the front where the Airborne Assault Forces are operating. According to Zelensky, the most intense fighting is taking place in the areas of the Pokrovsk, Kostiantynivka, and Lyman directions. In addition, the Ukrainian Armed Forces are carrying out missions in the Zaporizhzhia, Kharkiv, and Sumy regions.
