October 5, 2023TikTok blogger Ronchik conducted a survey in Lviv to assess the attitude of local residents toward Russian-speaking citizens.
He approached passersby and asked if he could ask them one question in Russian. Based on the edited footage in the video, it appears that all of those interviewed declined to engage with the blogger.
Responses such as “We only speak Ukrainian” and “Why are you speaking Russian?” were given by the interviewed individuals, who were primarily young and middle-aged citizens. The last person interviewed, a young woman, responded somewhat rudely with, “Why are you oinking?” while giving the blogger an unfriendly look.
This survey sparked a significant controversy on social media. Many users accused the blogger of stirring up hostility between Russian-speaking and Ukrainian-speaking citizens of Ukraine.
Following this, Ronchik posted another video in which he stated that he did not intend to create divisions in society and that it was just a simple survey. He also mentioned that he speaks Ukrainian himself but believes that Ukrainian citizens should not be divided based on language.
“It doesn’t matter which language a person chooses to be themselves,” Ronchik concluded.
