Without American aid, Ukraine may last no more than six months against Russia – Le Monde

Without U.S. military assistance, Ukraine will not be able to resist Russia for more than six months, and Europe is unable to replace American support.

This was reported by Le Monde, citing the words of former Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Ihor Romanenko, spoken on February 17 at the Munich Security Conference.

Nikolai Mitrokhin, a researcher at the University of Bremen, believes that the current American supplies, if used sparingly, will last until mid-summer or autumn.

At the same time, U.S. assistance plays a decisive role in Ukraine’s air and missile defense, which relies mainly on Patriotsystems. For deep strikes on Russian territory, American ATACMS missiles are often used.

The U.S. is also a major supplier of 155mm artillery shells. The report notes that Washington can influence European deliveries of U.S.-made F-16 fighter jets, which have only recently begun, as well as the overall support provided through intelligence sharing and the security of Ukraine’s telecommunications.

There have been no official comments on these areas of aid so far. However, the freezing of USAID funds has already affected Starlink satellite terminals, which were financed by the American agency. It remains unclear whether the head of the U.S. Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), Elon Musk, will maintain their operation in the future.

Earlier, a volunteer warned that Musk could disable Starlink at the front at any moment, leading to significant losses for Ukrainian forces.

Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelensky have entered into a heated public conflict.
