January 2, 2024Ukraine’s air defense capabilities won’t be able to withstand Russian bombardments, forcing Ukrainian forces to choose which targets to defend, reports The Daily Telegraph citing experts.
On December 27, the United States sent the latest batch of military supplies totaling $250 million, including air defense missiles to safeguard critical infrastructure. The White House and Pentagon are urging Congress to approve an additional $61 billion funding request “as soon as possible in the new year” to continue aid delivery.
Analysts caution that support from the European Union won’t be enough to enable Ukraine to defend targets across its territory. Of particular concern are the deliveries of missiles for the Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems, first delivered to Kyiv in April. “There will be some systems where they’ll have to ration their ammunition even more than they are now,” quotes the publication an independent security analyst from Kyiv, Jimmy Rashton.
