December 7, 2023The Chair of the Budget Committee in the Ukrainian Parliament, Roxolana Pidlasa, cautioned that if US legislators fail to finalize financial support for Ukraine for the upcoming year, there could be challenges with social spending as early as January 2024, Forbes.ua reported.
Pidlasa pointed out that without the anticipated aid from the United States, there might be difficulties in funding social and humanitarian programs starting in January. However, she didn’t specify the exact funding amounts in question. In such a scenario, the government could face a shortfall of 20 billion hryvnias in social expenditures, as stated by another unnamed member of the ruling “Servant of the People” party.
She further highlighted that if the US aid doesn’t materialize, there might be a need for expenditure cuts. This would compel the government to seek additional funds within the country’s domestic debt market. Though considered undesirable, one of the potential options could involve printing more hryvnias, as suggested by a “Servant of the People” legislator and a confidential source within the Cabinet.
