29.07.2026 11:01U.S. presidential special envoy Steve Witkoff and businessman Jared Kushner have agreed to visit Kyiv for the first time.
This was reported by the Financial Times, citing sources.
No exact date for the visit has been given. FT correspondent Christopher Miller wrote on X that the negotiators could travel to the Ukrainian capital within the next two weeks. Last week, Witkoff and Kushner discussed the resumption of peace talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky by phone.
According to the publication’s sources, the visit by U.S. representatives to Ukraine signals that the parties are intensifying efforts toward a peaceful settlement. In addition, FT sources noted that “the talks mark a sharp shift away from the tensions” between Washington and Kyiv.
The day before, Volodymyr Zelensky met with Donald Trump at the White House. Among the topics discussed, Zelensky cited the transfer to Kyiv of a license to produce interceptors for Patriot missile systems.
In November 2025, Trump approved a new 28-point peace plan for Ukraine. Kyiv and European Union countries criticized it for proposals to reduce the Ukrainian army, abandon U.S. military aid, and transfer part of Donbas to Russia. Subsequently, American officials, including Daniel Driscoll, visited Kyiv to refine the plan, which was later reduced to 22 points.
