Europe risks entering winter with the lowest gas reserves in 15 years
29.06.2026 09:04Serhiy Kovalenko, CEO of energy company Yasno, has warned Ukrainians of possible electricity outages amid abnormal heat and urged people to keep power banks and other gadgets charged in advance.
According to Kovalenko, every additional 3 degrees Celsius in Kyiv increases the load on the energy system by approximately 100 MW. The additional consumption is driven not only by household air conditioners but also by cooling systems in offices, shops, shopping centers, and industrial facilities.
The heat is an added strain on equipment that has already been operating under wartime conditions for more than four years and has repeatedly come under attack. Part of the energy infrastructure is currently undergoing repairs following previous strikes, while the remaining equipment is operating at nearly its full capacity.
“I hope we will manage to get through this period without significant restrictions. But, as always during wartime, one should be prepared for various scenarios,” — Kovalenko said.
Earlier, experts suggested that power outages in Ukraine due to the heat could amount to up to five hours per day. Ukrenergo also forecast five-hour outages in July and August.
