15.05.2024 - 21:10Due to Russia’s advance, Ukraine is facing a dilemma, having to choose between political and military objectives.
This was reported by the N-TV channel.
For instance, Australian former general Mick Ryan believes that “if Ukrainians decide to hold onto this territory at any cost, they will lose even more of their continuously shrinking army. If they decide to preserve their army, they will have to give up positions.” However, he still believes that Ukraine will manage to hold onto Kharkiv.
Director of the Mediterranean Foundation for Strategic Studies (FMES), Pierre Razou, agrees with the general. He believes that Ukraine will have to choose between holding the front line or strategic points, “especially major cities.”
“Kyiv is currently unable to achieve both goals simultaneously,” Razou believes. As a reason, the French analyst points to the configuration of the front, which gives Russia an advantage due to its transportation infrastructure. “They are in an optimal position,” Razou concludes.
