The frontrunner for Germany’s chancellorship believes that good relations with Russia must be established in the future
19.02.2025 - 12:19Ukrainian Ambassador to the United Kingdom and former Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Valerii Zaluzhnyi, avoided answering a question regarding his potential participation in the upcoming presidential elections.
He made this statement during an online conference.
According to Zaluzhnyi, this question is currently “inappropriate.”
“When the time comes, as a government official, I will respond to such questions. For now, we have only one task—to endure and preserve our state. After that, we will think about other matters,” said the former Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
At present, Zaluzhnyi is considered the main potential rival of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in the upcoming elections. According to polls, the former commander-in-chief would defeat the incumbent president in the second round.
Because of this, sources report that the presidential office is actively trying to persuade Zaluzhnyi not to run in the election. Meanwhile, Zaluzhnyi recently made a joke about Zelensky, referencing his past remark about having barbecues in the spring.
Recently, U.S. President Donald Trump called for elections to be held in Ukraine and claimed that Zelensky’s approval rating is at 4%.
